Abeokuta /Asaba — Eleven persons, including a two -year old baby, were yesterday feared dead in two separate road accidents in Ogun and Delta states.
In Ogun State, three people were feared dead, while several others were injured in a ghastly motor accident which occured at Oke Mosan area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
An eye witness account told THISDAY that the accident occurred around 3.15pm in front of the South West Resource Centre, when the front tyre of a commercial 18-seater Mitsubishi bus got burst while on top speed, making the bus to somersault several times.
The bus, with registration number, Lagos XN 28 EKY, and believed to be the property of the Students Union of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) , Ijebu-Ode was reported to have left Ijebu-Ode for Abeokuta, with passengers said to be travelling for a religious programme before the accident occurred.
Those who sustained various degrees of injuries were taken to the State Hospital, Ijaye for medical treatment, aided by men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
In the Delta accident, a two-year-old baby and eight others were feared dead when a 16 seater Toyota Haice bus lost control, somersaulted and crashed into the bush along Asaba -Benin Express road.
An eye witness account told THISDAY that, the bus with registration number, XK909UWN, bearing the inscription of, "Jehovah Bu Eze" was traveling from Enugu State to Lagos when the accident occurred at about 12:45 pm after losing its back tyre.
When THISDAY visited the scene of the accident at Edo-Ogwuashi, at Aniocha South Local Government Area , few kilometres away from Asaba International Airport, some of the injured passengers were seen being rushed to Mother and Child Cedical Centre and Federal Medical Centre, Asaba for treatment .
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and some policemen also took time to control the traffic that had built up along the expressway as a result of the accident.
FRSC Sector Commander for Delta state , Mr. Oluwasosin Familoni, who confirmed the accident, when contacted on phone told THISDAY that "it was a lone fatal accident with 14 persons seriously injured while five were confirmed dead at the spot , adding that the driver "violated the speed limit ".
