Enugu — THE remains of the former Governor of the old Anambra State , Chief Christian Onoh, who passed on May 5, this year will be interred at his Ngwo country home today.

The Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime and his colleagues from the South East Zone had agreed to accord the late statesman a state burial.

The first Republic Governor of the old Anambra State , Senator Jim Nwobodo, who is heading the burial planning committee, said all necessary arrangements for the funeral of Onoh had been concluded, expressing the hope that the event would be hitch-free.

The police said yesterday that it has beefed up security in Ngwo, to ensure hitch free funeral for the late Governor. Spokesman for Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebele Amaraizu, said that the Commissioner of Police, who happen to be the chairman of Security Committee for the event had released an operational order for the burial.

He said that over 500 mobile policemen have been drawn from Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo states squadrons to argument the force on ground, adding that the mobile policemen have since been mobilized to various areas where the funeral activities would take place to maintain law and order.

As part of the programmes lined up for the burial, an exhibition on the life of Onoh and a public lecture were held in his honour in Enugu yesterday.

In a farewell message to the former Governor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Enugu State Chapter led by Mr. Vita Abba, said it was in deep grief over the death of "this great man, whose life of service had been a source of inspiration to many and an enduring front for the emancipation of the entire Igbo race, most especially the WAWA people from injustice and political imbalance."
