Zimbabwe: HCCL, Zeco Attend Zambia Trade Fair

Ndola — THE Zambia International Trade Fair opened here on Tuesday with only two Zimbabwean companies participating.

Hwange Colliery Company Limited and Zeco Holdings are among 596 African companies exhibiting at this year's 45th edition of the Zambian Trade Fair being held under the theme "Investment in Infrastructure for Competitiveness."

ZITF general manager Mr Johnston Mwelya said several Zimbabwean only two companies are exhibiting.

"We expected quite a number of companies from Zimbabwe to showcase, but unfortunately only two are here," he said.

Several events have been lined up during the seven-day long exhibition these include business seminars, touring of stands by senior Government officials, investors and buyers within Africa and outside the continent.

Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete will officially launch the exhibition.

HCCL spokesperson Mr Bersel Dube

said exhibiting at this year's ZITF would place the company in a better position of consolidating the existing markets within the Sadc region as well as tapping into new markets within the Comesa region.

"It is an opportunity for us to enhance our feasibility in Sadc and the rest of Africa and particularly the Comesa region," said Mr Dube.

"It also gives us an opportunity to consolidate our market here in Zambia, the Sadc region and also tap into new markets."

Currently Hwange supplies coal to various copper mines, smelting and manufacturing companies here.

Zeco Managing Director Mr Harold Madziwo said he hoped his company would secure more business after the trade fair.

"We are optimistic of positive results.

"We know there are opportunities," said Mr Madziwo.
