Abuja — About N2 billion pensions of retired police officers have been kept in the Ministry of Finance, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mike Okiro has said. The IGP represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of 'A Department' (Administration and Finance) Ogbonna Onovo said this yesterday at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (ARPON) in Abuja.

"A number of pensioners have complained of not getting their entitlements for over three months while others said their documents have not been processed for payment for over five years. The money for the payment of pensioners about N2 billion is traced to the Finance Ministry," the IGP said.

He said the problems in the police force are associated to poor funding. He said the present reforms in the force have made provision for adequate fund for the force.
