Harare — THERE are fears of more loadshedding in the country following revelations that Zesa Holdings can run only one of the six generators at Hwange Power Station owing to a shortage of coal.
Zesa is thus almost totally reliant on Kariba South until more imports can be arranged. The power utility's spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira said coal deliveries had not improved at Hwange Power Station.
"Hwange Power station is thus not generating power at the moment from a possible five units due to the shortage," he said.
Zesa and Hwange Colliery Company were continuously working towards restoring units by increasing coal deliveries to the required levels.
"Arrangements have, however been put in place to alleviate the situation through increased power imports," said Mr Gwasira.
He said in the interim period, the power utility was urging all customers to use the available power supplies sparingly to minimise the effect of load shedding. "Zesa Holdings sincerely regrets the inconveniences caused," Mr Gwasira said.

What a load of rubbish. Hwange has the lrgest coal reserves in the world and there is a shortage??????. What's so hard to get the coal out of the ground and get it to the power station a few kilometers away. Talk about stupid excuses.
