THE Namibia Premier League will only have three categories when it holds its awards for the football season on July 10.
NPL chief administrator Tovey //Hoëbeb confirmed that the Player of the Season, Top Goal Scorer and Coach of the Season are the only award categories.
"We abolished all the other awards because of the controversies that go with the selection of these award winners. We want to keep it straight and to the point and do not want to make anyone unhappy for not getting anything," he said.
The coaches will decide on the Player of the Season and will also vote among themselves on the top coach of the season.
The top goal scorer for this season is Jerome Louis of Black Africa with 22 goals and he is already assured of a prize, of which the monetary value has not been determined yet.
//Hoëbeb said the coaches can nominate two players from any opposing team and one from their own club for the Player of the Season category. Coaches are not allowed to nominate themselves for the Coach of the Year award. Topping the list for Player of the Season is without a doubt Eleven Arrows chief goal-getter Rudolf Bester, who has been in impeccable form throughout the season, while he also excelled on national level.
Bester clearly stands out, with others coming close including his goalkeeper Virgil Vries, BA's Jerome Louis and SKW's Marco van Wyk. Stars coach Bobby Samaria is the favourite for the coach award, while BA's Ali Akan and Ricardo Mannetti of Civics also stand a good chance.
