Abuja — Police on Thursday said Sheik Ja'afar Mahmud Adam, murdered in April 2007 at a mosque in Kano, was killed by four unknown gunmen and not the Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, as alleged by some online news organisations.
The governor was thereafter cleared by the police of involvement in the murder. Also cleared alongside him were his ADC and the Kano State Emirate Council members.
The police at a press briefing in Abuja addressed on behalf of the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Mike Okiro, by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police 'D' Department, Isreal Ajao, said the allegation by the online news organisation was thoroughly investigated and found to be untrue.
Ajao disclosed that the governor, his ADC, as well as members of the Kano State Emirate Council were interrogated and found to be unconnected with the murder in any way.
