Massive preparations are being planned in Monrovia by certain elements within the Mandingo Community to stage a non-violent street demonstration in protest to the prolonged detention in Guinea of the former presidential candidate for the Progressive Democratic Party for Liberia (PROTEMP), Mr.Sekou Demante Conneh.
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Mike Jabateh told our reporter during the week that the necessary contacts and modalities are being worked out by some executives within the Liberian Mandingo Community to secure an official authorization from the Ministry of Justice.
Mr. Jabateh said similar contacts have made with the relatives of the PROTEMP’s leader to join in the non-violent exercise which is expected to be carried out through the principal streets of Monrovia sometime this week.
Mr. Sekou Demante Conneh, according to some credible PROTEMP’s sources, was arrested by Guinean security authorities upon the directive of that country’s military leader, Col. Moussa Camara on allegations of plans to unseat the regime.
Even though, the information still remains scanty with another version stating that it is the former wife of Mr. Conneh (Madam Haji Conneh) who is allegedly behind the imprisonment as a result of a along time feud between them.
However, latest unconfirmed report says Mr. Conneh is being transferred from Conakry, the capital to Kindiaya Prison Compound, which is 25km away from the capital city.
But according to Mr. Jabateh, the family and immediate relatives have already hired the legal services of Cllr, Augustine Pero, to represent the former leader of the defunct LURD.
Since his arrest and detention, there has been no word from the Liberian government, especially given the fact that Mr. Conneh is a Liberian citizen.
