Nigeria: Father Clubs Daughter to Death

3 July 2009

Makurdi — A middle age man, Terhemen Achika of Tseghem Mbaviende, in Ushongo local government council of Benue State has allegedly clubbed his eight year old daughter to death for eating eggs without his or her uncle's consent.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased little girl met her untimely death when in company of her friends removed four eggs laid by an uncle's chicken in the neighborhood and eat them without the consent of the uncle.

Investigations revealed that upon returning from the farm, Achika, the girl's father, received the news that his daughter had conspired with others to perpetrate the act.

When confronted, the deceased accepted that when they were hungry she in company of her uncle's children removed the eggs and cooked them for food since there was nothing to eat at the time.

Her angry father descended on his daughter, beating her with a stick and the little girl fell into a state of convulsion.

Her condition prompted the intervention of neighbors who rescued her but unfortunately she did not come out of that state despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital where she later gave up the ghost.

The matter was immediately reported to the Lessel Divisional Police Office who promptly effected the arrest of the culprit from where the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department CID, for further investigation.

Meanwhile the Police has arraigned the suspect before the Chief Magistrate Court Six Makurdi, where he was ordered to be remanded in prison custody while the commencement of hearing has been fixed for the 16th of July 2009.
