Lagos — Former member of the Delta State House of Assemblies, Honourable Gabriel Okpunor, is recently playing some great golf. The handicap 22 golfer was on fire at the Shell Ogunu Golf Club, Warri, when Ogunu golfers honoured Mayuku and his wife, two weeks ago. In Warri, Okpunor played like a professional golfer. His front nine score was out of this world but on hearing that his score would not count, he was discouraged and that spoilt his fun.

So, when it was made public that another kitty would be held in honour of the Mayukus in Asaba, Okpunor said it was time for him to prove his mettle. And that he did in style last week.

Okpunor, unlike in Warri, arrived well on time and went straight to business. After nine holes, the first IGCC captain came out smiling. Anyone who knows Okpunor well will know that he never smiles after any game. But in Asaba, the reverse was the case. He shot 40 net to emerge winner of the special kitty and had this to say.

"I came ready to win. I planned to win today and I told myself that nobody would stop me. I would have won in Warri, where the first kitty took place. But I was sanctioned for coming late. So I came early here prepared to win. And like the champion that I am, I played an incredible game, and here am, winner of the special kitty in honour of Honourable Daniel Mayuku and his lovely wife", Okpunor said.

IGCC's Ayo Akande who shot 40 net was beaten on count back by Okpunor to finish second, while the third place went to Mido who carded 41 net.

In the ladies' category, Honourable Sola Williams surprised everyone carding 40 net to emerge winner with Faith Baya coming behind her. Baya also won the longest drive prize at the nine holes kitty.
