Harare — THE trial of four men accused of robbing businesswoman, Dr Jane Mutasa of US$20 000 and a Mercedes Benz S350 at gunpoint, opened last Thursday with the bitter victim giving evidence.
Steven Chikomba (36), Trinos Bepete (32), Desmond Banda (29) and Gramer Nyahuma (24) who were driving a Toyota RAV 4 and a Mazda truck allegedly blocked Dr Mutasa's way along Southam Way in Greystone Park and robbed her while armed with two pistols.
Regional magistrate, Mr William Bhila presided over the case while prosecutor, Mr Cuthbert Mukandire appeared for the State.
Dr Mutasa told the court that she was shocked to discover that the two vehicles belonging to the gang had blocked her way along Southam Way. "I was shocked to discover that a maroon Toyota RAV 4 blocking me in the front while a Mazda pick-up was behind me. I had no option, but to suddenly stop.
"I was ordered to get out of my vehicle by one of the accused persons who was wearing police uniform and armed with a pistol. "I complied with the order. I later on screamed for help and unsuccessfully attempted to escape before falling down. One of them hit me on the face ordering me to remain silent," she said.
Dr Mutasa, who almost broke down while giving evidence, said she was bundled into the RAV 4 and blindfolded while they demanded money from her.
The court further heard that Dr Mutasa was later dumped near Circle Cement in Mabvuku and was given R20 as bus fare as the suspects drove away in her Mercedes Benz and two other vehicles.
The quartet separately denied the charges saying they were never part of the robbery.
Chikomba even denied any association with the other three suspects saying he was just caught in crossfire.
The trial continues on Wednesday.
