Nigeria: PTML Customs May Revenue N2.5 Billion

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Tin Can Island, Lagos, has raked in N2,501,984,251.35 as revenue to the Federal Government coffers in the month of May.

The Customs Area Comptroller of the terminal, Ayopayefa Warikoru, revealed while fielding questions from Sunday Independent on the activities of his command at the weekend.

Warokoru, who took the mantle of leadership of PTML about three months ago said that the revenue was generated from import duty, fees, seven per cent surcharge, five per cent value-added tax (VAT), one per cent CISS, 0.5 per cent ETLS, specified levies and Negotiable Duty Credit Certificate (NDCC).

He revealed that N1,369,295,029.39 accrued from import duty, N20,557,575 from fees, N103,345,689.50 from seven per cent S/C, N727,389,570.05 from five per cent VAT and N157,363,738.38 from one per cent CISS.

Also N104,147,463.11 from 0.6 per cent ETCS, N19,872,505.92 from special levies and N103,000,000 from NDCC.

Warikoru who said that his mandate at the PTML is to increase the revenue generation and block leakages, said that since his arrival, enlightenment campaign have been carried out and still ongoing to importers and agents who transact business at the terminal to desist from unauthorised means of transacting business at the port or face the consequences.

He explained that under-declaration and machine outside, known as MO, has been tackled at the terminal and has become a by-gone issues.

He also emphasised on the good working relationship among officers in his command, the service providers, the importers and agents, adding that it is the reason why activities at the terminal have been smooth, but said that the only way he would have problem with the operators at the port is if they engage in any activity that will affect negatively the revenue generation of his command.

The customs officer said that when he came on board, the first thing he did was to know his products to be able to market them and this knowledge and application of some measures and approaches have responsible for the increase in revenue drive.
