Awka — ANAMBRA state government has rehabilitated 15 General Hospitals in the state, as part of its effort to improve healthcare delivery in the three senatorial zones of the state.
Commissioner for Health, Prof Amobi Ilika who spoke at the opening ceremony of a workshop for Public Health Physicians of Nigeria, pharmacists and midwives at Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, said that 10 more General Hospitals would be rehabilitated this year.
All the hospitals, he said, would be fully equipped, adding that three containers of hospital equipment procured by the state government would soon be distributed to the hospitals.
According to him, missionary hospitals in the state were also not left out in the rehabilitation exercise, as special grants had been given to them to enable them secure accreditation from the relevant professional bodies for the training of nurses, midwives and medical laboratory technologists, while drugs were also supplied to them to help sustain the tempo of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) as it affects the health sector.
Ilika emphasized the need for the training and retraining of health workers to improve their skills. He advised the doctors on the importance of attitudinal change in their work places for effective healthcare delivery.
