One person died Friday morning, while three others sustained serious injuries in a fatal accident that occurred in Kwali town, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

An eyewitness said the accident happened when a Toyota Carina car with registration number BF 916 KUJ had a burst tyre while on top speed and in the process somersaulted, before crashing into a ditch, killing one person on the spot.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Kwali's Unit Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Umar, attributed the accident cause to a burst tyre, adding that the corpse was deposited at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital's Morgue, while the injured were taken to Kwali General Hospital.

The unit commander also disclosed that one person died, while 10 others sustained injuries in another accident that occurred at Kamadi junction, on the same road

According to him, a Honda car with registration number EW 738 ABC overtook dangerously at a sharp bend and collided with a Volkswagen Golf car with registration number BH 570 KUJ, killing one person on the spot, while nine others sustained various degrees of injuries.

"The injured passengers were taken to Kwali General Hospital, while the corpse was deposited at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital's Morgue," he added.

Umar lamented further that three persons sustained injuries in another multiple accident that occurred at Sheda village on Saturday night.

He said the accident involved a Mark truck with registration number AE 876 JJN, a tanker truck with registration number XB 330 RNG and a Mandiesel truck with registration number XH 845 AGL.

The FRSC official attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous overtaking at a sharp bend by the driver of the Mac truck, adding that in the process, the truck rammed into another truck from behind.

Mr. Umar said the obstructions were immediately cleared while the injured were rushed to Kwali General Hospital for treatment.
