An Abuja Magistrate court has ordered the remand of two suspected rapists in prison custody after the court failed to consider their bail application.
The men, Nnamani Nnalen and Abuchi Eze of no fixed address, were accused of raping one Esther Bulus inside a bush as well as collecting the sum of N86,000 from her on June 24.
Prosecutor Emmanul Hosseni had earlier told the court that on June 24, one Esther Bulus of Mpape village reported to the area commander at Metro Police Station, Maitama that on the same date while she was going to the bank at Emab Plaza Wuse II, the accused persons deceived her into their vehicle and drove her away.
"They drove her straight to Karimo road and carried her inside a bush, where they collected the sum of N86,000 in her possession and forcefully have sex with her," the prosecutor added.
He said the offences committed by the accused persons are contrary to Sections 79,322 and 285 of the Penal Code Law.
When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty and sought for bail, which the prosecutor opposed.
Magistrate Josephine Obanor ruled that the two accused persons be remanded in the prison custody till July 22, when the case is slated for hearing.
