Kampala — Emma Katto and Moses Matovu's chance of winning the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) this year disappeared further after clutch problems forced the Ugandan team out of the 33rd Zambia International Rally on Saturday.

Muna Singh of Zambia, in a Subaru N10 won the three day event in a time of 2:43:37, only 15 seconds ahead of teammate Mohamed Essa in Subaru N11 who is set to win the Pirelli Star Driver (PSD) award. Championship leader James Whyte of Zimbabwe was third. Muna won the event for the second time having triumphed in 2007.

"From the first section on day two (Saturday) we experienced clutch problems and eventually could engage the third gear," EMKA told Daily Monitor on phone.

EMKA went into the event on 15 points, nine behind leader Whyte but now finds himself 15 points behind with one round to go. The Zimbabwe Challenge Rally due August 28-30 is the last round.

However, Katto said they have been offered full sponsorship package by Zimbabwe organizers. "Our car is setting off for Harare on Monday (today) to prepare for the event. They have also promised to repair the car. We only have to provide spares," EMKA ended. The event the fourth round of ARC had a total of 557.45km.
