A LUSAKA businessman has sued the South African Airways for negligence and is now demanding over R62,000 from the airline.
According to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Ardy Mnjaidi states that he was a passenger on the airline's, flight number SA 62 from Johannesburg to Lusaka, ticket number 0832110075067 and that on arrival he discovered that some of his luggage was missing.
He claims that he discovered that two of his suitcases had been opened, vandalised and damaged in consequence of which a number of items were stolen amounting to R62,010.
He claims that he had suffered loss and damages as a result of the defendant's negligence in failing to ensure that client's luggage were secured.
"The airline did not take adequate steps to ensure the safety of the luggage, failed to prevent the suitcases from being damaged and stolen and in the circumstances, my cases had been vandalised and items in them went missing," he stated.
He indicates that airline had not taken any serious measures to locate his lost luggage since February 4 when his luggage went missing.

The airport of Johannesburg has probably the highest level of broken-open suitcases and missing items in the world. Did you forget to clingwrap your luggage? I wish you all the best with the R62.000 claim (were you carrying bars of gold or what?). For your information, it is not the airlines that do the handling of your luggage, but external companies.
Good luck anyway!
