A group of 15 United States secondary school teachers and university lecturers are currently on a week long study program at the University of the Gambia.

The group's visit is part of the Fultright-H2yr Group's Abroad Program and is funded by the United States Department of Education. In an exclusive chat with the Daily Observer, the coordinator of the group, Dr Carol West from Hendrix College, Arkansas USA said their visit is part of the United States Department of Education initiative to expose American teachers to other parts of the world so that they can improve their intellectual horizon on the teaching subjects, adding that this year's visit to Africa which took them to Senegal and The Gambia will improve their understanding and teaching Africa.

She also revealed that since their arrival, they have been given morning lectures on Gambian history and have also been exposed to the different methodologies of teaching at the university. Coordinator Carol also seized the opportunity to commend the students' union for devoting their time to them since their arrival, noting that their interaction with the union has given them the opportunity to have a taste of student life at the university. The group will be departing for the US on July 8th.
