Kampala — THE 40-year-old British national, who was on Wednesday confirmed to be infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus, commonly referred to as swine flu, has completed treatment and is ready to be discharged, health officials have said.

"He is not infectious anymore. He has responded well to treatment and has completed the mandatory seven days under isolation," said Sam Okware, the chairperson of the national Influenza A taskforce.

He said the disease's incubation period is seven days.

The British businessman arrived at Entebbe from London via Nairobi on June 26.

Before being diagnosed, he visited an undisclosed family in Munyonyo, a Kampala suburb.

Okware said members of the family were being monitored.

"None of them has shown signs of the disease" he said.

Another Ugandan man, who arrived from Kenya on Saturday, is in isolation after showing suspicious signs during screening at the airport.

By press time, results from the Uganda Virus Research Institute were not yet in.

This brings to 10 the number of suspected swine flue cases that have been tested in Uganda since the onset of the pandemic.

Only one case has so far been confirmed.
