Kampala — ON top of the of the sh75m the Cranes players got for winning the CECAFA Challenge Cup, there are plans to build each of them residential units.
This will be a big blow to the eight members of the winning team who were not on an incomplete list handed to President Yoweri Museveni after a dinner he hosted for them in May.
While two of those who missed out on the sh6.3m per player award given out last week attended but did not register as asked to by the President, six others were not able to attend the dinner.
The President's press secretary Tamale Mirundi yesterday said that the players did not only miss out of the $3,000 bonus given to others players, but might end up missing much more valuable offers.
Mirundi was commenting on whether the eight players on the Cranes squad that were not on the list that was used to award others players, stood a chance of getting their money.
"It's quite difficult and it is a long process. The dinner was held early May and the money was only got in June and that says all about the process. There is also a chance for them to get houses and it looks like only members on the list will benefit. We were working on the players list," said Mirundi on Friday.
He said that tampering with the list might cause some other people to suspect that there is a flaw in the process. An incomplete list was submitted to the President after the players met him and asked that he offer them much more than a new team bus.
The president asked them to register, but only 12 of the 20 who won the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup were registered to get the reward.
Among those who missed the reward are tournament top scorer Brian Umony and defender Ismail Kazibwe, who did not pen down their names on the list.
Team captain Andy Mwesigwa, Vincent Kayizi, Geoffrey Massa , Godfrey Wagalukka, Ceasar Okhuti and Tonny Mawejje were not able to attend the dinner and missed out on the offer.
Museveni's pledge of sh6.3m per player was distributed last Friday by the Principal Private Secretary to the president Amelia Kyambadde. Cranes assistant captain Simeon Masaba led a group of eight that received the cash.
