Nairobi — The Kenya Institute of Management might soon start offering degree courses, if granted authority by the Commission for Higher Education.
According to the institute's executive director Mwangi Ngumo, the college has already made intentions to seek for a letter of interim authority from the Government.
"This will ensure that the institute elevates and expands its quality management courses to graduate level, as we endeavour to offer quality services and products that are customer-driven," he said.
Currently, the institute offers multi-faceted management courses at diploma level as well as an executive MBA programme in collaboration with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture.
If granted, the University will be located at Kisaju near Kitengela, where a 100-acre piece of land has been set aside for its development.
Speaking during the Company of the Year Awards held last Friday night, Mr Ngumo also noted that the institute had made advanced preparations for the KIM university.
During the award in its 10th year, Mabati Rolling Mills was named as the company of the year.
The manufacturing firm beat Bamburi Cement and Kenya Wildlife Service to second and first runners up positions respectively.
Satisfaction
Among the areas the award assessed were on organisational processes and results based on products or services and its effectiveness, employee and customer satisfaction, social impact and financial results.
Dr Julius Kipng'etich of KWS was named the chief executive officer of the year in the ceremony presided over by deputy Prime minister and minister for Local Government Musalia Mudavadi.
"These awards allow you to see yourself as you stand on the scale of working systems and instruments. The beauty of it is that it helps you sustain good things and correcting those that bring you down," said Mr Mudavadi.
Mr Muthoga Ngera of British American Insurance (Britak) scooped the manager of the year award. Unlike previous years, there were no runners up positions for the manager and chief executive of the year categories.
Other winners at the gala event at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre included Blowplast, Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited, Kenya Airways and Nairobi Bottlers.
KWS, MRM and Kenya Airways each took home two awards in the categories, while CIC and Davis and Shirtliff took the Judges Awards.
