Kano — Islamic scholars have been asked to be moderate and simple while admonishing followers in line with the spirit of Islam which preaches moderation and respect for human beings.
The call was made yesterday by the Kano State Commissioner for Sharia, Ustaz Umar Sani Fagge at a lecture he delivered on the occasion of the Islamiyya Training of Islamic teachers on effective teaching in Islamiyyah schools organised by the office of the Special Adviser on Education and Information Technology at the Aminu Kano College of Islamic Legal Studies, Kano. Fagge noted that Islamic scholars should observe moderation and respect for their target audience, adding that harshness while correcting a wrong behaviour hardly yields any good result.
He said it was wrong for a preacher or teacher to condemn so harshly as to make someone feel doomed, saying Islam preaches wisdom and good admonition while calling people to the right path. The commissioner further advised Islamic scholars to respect their colleagues. "Individuals endowed with knowledge can play certain roles which would be beneficial to the society, so to look down upon a colleague is wrong," he said. He further charged the scholars to lead by example. "Your work must tally with your words, your work should outweigh your words because in Islam one is judged by his words and actions," he advised.
