Botswana: BDP in Deep Trouble

The constituency is therefore very marginal, and it would do the BDP much good if Wynter Mmolotsi was to concentrate all his efforts there. Vain Mamela must be all smiles seeing Mmolotsi unnecessarily fighting two battles, and not getting his priorities right.

It is unfortunate that in the above mentioned three constituencies - Gaborone Central, Gaborone West South and Francistown South - the BDP fielded youthful firebrands who unfortunately have decided to turn the firepower against their own kith and kin in the BDP.

Undoubtedly, had these young guns directed their firepower to the opposition, the opposition was going to be wiped out clean with the BDP increasing its share of votes.

The sad reality is that these three young guns might, wrongly so, lose out to the opposition at the general election for having been misled into fighting a war driven by malice.

It is however not too late for them to prevail on DK to withdraw from contesting for the party chair in the best interest of the BDP. This would allow the young guns to concentrate their efforts on campaigning for the general election, thus increasing their chances in the aforesaid.

President Ian Khama's call to have myself Nkate, DK, PHK and Merafhe not contest the central committee elections was in the best interests of the party, and they remain, for now, the best option.

DK's insistence on running for party chairman is hurting the party, and should he insist on running, the party membership must call his bluff by resoundingly and flatly rejecting him at the poll.
