Luanda — The Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, returned on Saturday afternoon to the country, after having participated in Sirtes City, Libya, in the 13th summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
In representation of the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, the Parliament Speaker and his delegation were welcomed in Luanda's 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, João Lourenço.
The participants to the summit, which happened on 1-3 July, approved on Friday the project of transformation of the Africa Union Commission into an Authority.
The event, which took place under the motto "Investing in Agriculture for Economic Growth and Food Security", was attended, among others, by the presidents of Senegal, South Africa, Mali, Mozambique, Gabon, Cape Verde, Algeria and Malawi.
The opening ceremony was marked by the speeches of the chairman of the AU's Commission, Jean Ping, the UN Secretary- General, Ban Ki-moon, and the by Libyan Head of State, Muammar Kadhafi.
The Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, also delivered a speech during the opening ceremony as a special guest.
