REIGNING Soccer Star of the Year, Evans Chikwaikwai has indicated that he is not interested in a move to Highlanders or Gunners despite the two clubs dangling a carrot opting instead to go for trials with new South Africa premiership side Jomo Cosmos.
Bosso have tabled an offer for the Golden Boot award winner to bolster their strike force. The club want Chikwaikwai on a six-month contract to bolster their league campaign. Bosso has a challenge as the striker wants to move out of the domestic league.
Gunners have also put money on the table, for the Njube Sundowns' lethal striker, who notched 23 goals last season. There are reports that Dynamos are also interested in Chikwaikwai, who has scored nine goals this season. But DeMbare has not made a formal offer.
Isaiah Shonhiwa, one of the Sundowns' directors and Tawengwa Hara, the club secretary said in separate interviews that Chikwaikwai was looking beyond Highlanders and would go for trials with Jomo Cosmos.
The striker, who was plucked from anonymity by Sundowns in 2007 when he played for Rusape's Division One side Grain Tigers, has been trying to break into international football.
He went for trials with France's RC Strasbourg in August last year, before auditioning with Poland's Legia Warsaw, early this year together with Caps United's Method Mwanjali and former Motor Action playmaker Clemence Matawu.
Shonhiwa said the Sundowns directors comprising lawyer Hara and another Bulawayo businessman Gift Banda would discuss the offer letter from Jomo Cosmos at their executive meeting tomorrow.
The executive will also deliberate on extending Chikwaikwai's contract, which ends on December 31.
"As things stand Evans is still a Sundowns player. We have received letters from two clubs -- Highlanders and Jomo Cosmos -- who want to sign the striker. Highlanders have written to us revealing their wish to sign the player on a six-month loan, while Jomo Cosmos has invited him for trials in South Africa," Shonhiwa said.
The transfer window opened on July 1 and will close on July 31.
Hara said Chikwaikwai had indicated he was not interested in moving to Highlanders. He said the reported move to Dynamos was just pub talk. Monomotapa have also expressed interest in another Sundowns player Tbabani Kamusoko.
"We have received offer letters from Highlanders and Gunners but the player is not interested. He has been invited to pre-season trials by Jomo Cosmos," Hara said.
Meanwhile, Caps United is reported to have snatched Lazarus Muhoni from struggling army side Black Rhinos. Gunners have signed Highway's roving playmaker Willard Katsande in the early transfer market.
