Eritrea: Ms. Amna Stresses Need for Health Experts to Make Good Use of Available Material And Infrastructure Facilities

Barentu — The Minister of Health, Ms. Amna Nurhussein, stressed the need for health professionals to make good use of the available material and infrastructure facilities so as to provide efficient medical service to the public. She made the remarks in a course of a visit to 3 hospitals, 6 health centers and 7 health stations in the Gash Barka region.

Stating that health institutions are being equipped with the necessary and advanced facilities as a result of the Government's substantial investment, Ms. Amna urged medical experts to redouble their commitment and dedication so as to register still greater achievements.

The Minister further said that the task of the committees that are set up to supervise the activities of health centers in a number of towns and semi-urban centers in the region is not to be viewed lightly, and that administrative bodies and other institutions should back up such initiatives.

The head of the Ministry's branch office in Gash Barka region, Dr. Girmai Yossief, indicated on his part that there are 3 hospitals including a referral hospital, 16 health centers and 49 health stations in the region which are providing efficient service.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson of NUEW, Ms. Leul Gebreab, pointed out that the philosophy of the Eritrean government is anchored on nurturing the cherished values of the society and ensuring equitable allocation of resources. She further explained that the increase of participation of females in the Warsay-Yikaalo School by over 40% is the outcome of the coordinated efforts exerted, and particularly the dedication of youth women.

Following extensive discussion, the participants adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations aimed at promoting active female participation in education.
