Sirte — Relations between Angola and South Africa were analysed on Thursday in Sirte City, in Libya, in a meeting between the Speaker of the Angolan National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, and the South African Head of State, Jacob Zuma.
The exchange of views on the political, economic and social situation of the respective countries topped the meeting, having the leader of the Angolan parliament seized the occasion to congratulate personally and formally President Jacob Zuma for his recent inauguration as South African Head of State.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the representative of the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, at the 13th Summit of AU, said that during discussions it was found that all countries are aware of the need to invest in agriculture, for rapid growth and combat to hunger in the continent, according to the theme of the meeting of the summit.
He said that the heads of State and Government continue to discuss the transformation of the AU Commission into an African Authority, pending, however, the basic document to be presented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, for its analysis.
Dismissing the idea that there is a deadlock in the transformation of the AU, the Speaker of the National Assembly said that the presidents have decided that the Executive Council should draft a document of consensus, which serves as basis for decision-making by the Heads of State and Government.
