Kenya: PS Says 1,500 Nurses to Be Hired Every Year

4 July 2009

Nairobi — The government will hire 1,500 nurses annually to address the countrywide shortage of medical personnel.

Medical Services Permanent Secretary Prof James ole Kiyiapi said 1,000 health workers hired in the last financial year will report to their stations next week.

This comes just a day before Parliament scrutinises this year's budget in which Sh655 million is earmarked for employing 4,200 nurses on contract basis.
