Lagos — Lagos State University (LASU) management has barred striking lecturers from entering the campus as the industrial action declared by ASUU is having devastating effects on the system.
In a special bulletin, the management said it is aware of some members of staff who claimed to be on strike.
It added: "The university management would like to advise such members to stay away from the campus and not to come to work.
That will be a proper thing to do rather than coming into the campus and harassing others who are willing to work.
Individual workers should be free to choose as they desire whether to strike or not." The management assures those staff at work that "it is determined to maintain peace on campus.
In another development, candidates seeking admission into the Postgraduate School for higher degrees are to sit for the qualifying examination on Saturday (today), July 4, 2009 as scheduled at the Ojo Campus of the Lagos State University.
They are expected to come with certain items for the examination which include photocopies of credentials, writing materials, etc.
The candidates were asked to personally attend the written and selection examinations as "make up test will not be conducted. Attempts to reach the LASU-ASUU chairman, Dr. Olusegun Akinyemi, whose members are on strike were futile.
At the ASUU secretariat, a staff said that the chairman was out of the campus. Also the chairman of the Senior staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) could not beseen as the office was locked and nobody available.
It is not certain who will conduct the qualifying examination for the candidates because ASUU had said that there won't be any examination, marking of scripts, supervision of projects, conferences, meetings, seminars and other academic activities during the ongoing nationwide indefinite strike which has entered its 12th day.
