Sirte — The project of transformation of Africa Union Commission into an authority was approved Friday by the Heads of State and Government of Africa Union (AU), who met in its 13th ordinary session in Sirte, Libya.
The implementation in practice of this decision lacks, however, a correction regarding to the constitution act of Africa Union (AU) and the acceleration of its ratification by the organisation member States - a process which can be more or less long, similarly to the consensus reached
Friday dawn.
African Heads of State and Government approved almost all proposals included in the report of AU Executive Commission, held in April, Tripoli, Libya, which are the creation of a post of president and vice president respectively, despite of eight secretaries.
They considered also the proposals of Libyan leader, Mouammar Kadhafi, regarding to the establishment of commissions of collective defence, security and coordination of foreign affairs.
The African leaders established also within the new authority a position of collective defence coordinator and another of secretary of Industry.
There were reinforced the privileges of some secretaries to add other suggestions made by Libyan leader, starting therefore by the secretaries of trade, industry and international cooperation be in charge of dossier by New Partnership for Africa Development (Nepad).
