Nigeria: Aero Introduces Insurance Package For Passengers

Lagos — Aerocontractors has, in conjunction with Oceanic Insurance group, introduced a travel insurance scheme for its customers in Nigeria and Ghana.

Group Managing Director of Oceanic Insurance, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, who disclosed this at the unveiling of the package yesterday in Lagos, said the scheme was the result of an extensive market research process that seeks to provide superior value propositions to the airline's customers across the country.

Ibru, who was represented by Mr. Lafor Olateru-Olagbegi, explained that the scheme, which is the first of its kind by any airline in Nigeria, would cover compensation for personal accidents, flight delay/cancellation, travel emergency medical expenses and baggage delays/ inconveniences.

She noted that Oceanic's partnership with Aero has delivered a product that will give customers complete solutions to various concerns associated with air travel.

According to her, for domestic travel, the insurance coverage will take effect from when the insured passengers arrive the airport for the purpose of commencement of the scheduled flight on the first departure date, while for international travel, the insurance cover starts from 12 midnight on the day of travel up to 20 days later, provided that the premium is paid for and a copy of the Aero Travel Insurance

Mrs. Ibru said customers who choose to purchase the insurance scheme online when flying with Aero, will be expected to choose three options of travel insurance.

According to her, option one and two will attract a premium of N750 and N1500 respectively.

She listed the benefits of the scheme to include personal accidents of up to N1 million; N10,000 per person per trip for flight cancellation and delays of over 12 hours, travel emergency medical expense of up to N50,000 and baggage delay and inconvenience of N20,000 per person.

Ibru said accompanying infants would also get free personal accident benefit of not more than N100,000.

According to her, the other option for international travellers attracts a premium of $7, with benefits including personal accident of up to $5,000 per person, flight cancellation and delays of over 12 hours $75, emergency medical evacuation benefit of up to $40,000 and baggage delay of $150 per person.

She added that there was also a 24-hour worldwide accident service included in the package.

on the day of travel up to 20 days later -- provided that the premium is paid for and a copy of the Aero Travel Insurance.
