Ghana: Sekyere East DCE Tours Communities

MR. KWADWO Adae, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sekyere East District, has embarked on a tour of communities in the area, to acquaint himself with challenges facing the people.

He has met with the chiefs and peoples of about 20 communities, including Ntumkumso, Bouya, Ampaedwa, Addokrom, Motokrodua, Tetekaso, Seniagya, Adukrom, Awaham, Brofoyedru, Nkwakwanua, Koforidua, Asukawkaw, Senchi, Amangoase, Oguaa, Odurokrom, Okaikrom, Obaapanin, Attakrom and Putum.

The chiefs appealed to the government to provide their communities with basic amenities such as potable water, public places of convenience, market, electricity, teachers' quarters and clinics.

Others mentioned the renovation of school blocks and the reshaping and tarring of their roads, as their priorities.

At Tetekaso, Motokrodua. Addokrom and Ampaedwa, the chiefs made urgent requests for health posts, schools (primary) and potable water.

The Odikro of Motokrodua, on behalf of the four communities, said the over 600 inhabitants live under very deplorable conditions, as daily school travel is over four kilometers to Krofrom in the Ejisu/Juaben Municipality.

Responding, DCE Adae assured them that their request would be critically looked at by the Assembly.

He advised the people to take advantage of the Capitation Grant and School Feeding Programme, and send their wards to school to the highest level possible, as education is the key to success and development.

Mr. Adae advised the people to see themselves as one people, and come together to champion the development of the district.

In a related development, the DCE for the Sekyere Afram Plains district, Mr. Jacob Kofi Danquah, has also begun a similar tour of communities in his area.

He has already visited Sekyere, Banko, Akrofoso, Bomeng, Oyoko, Dadease, Akotosu and Wonoo, where the chiefs and people pledged their support to his administration.

They would, however, want the District Assembly to assist them with the provision of basic social amenities.

The Chief of Sekyere, Nana Kwabena Onin Pobii II, appealed to the assembly to put in place measures to check the indiscriminate felling of trees in the area by contractors and timber firms, who they also accused of destroying their food and cash crops without compensation.

The Chief also called on the Assembly to consider siting the Area Council to Sekyere which used to be the capital of the Sekyere State.

Nana Dr. Quao, Chief of Dadease, also urged the Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, help complete the construction of a dormitory block for the Dadease Agricultural Senior High School.

He noted that the completion of the dormitory would help ease the accommodation problem facing the over 900 students.

Dr. Quao as well urged the DCE to use his good offices to ensure that the school gets a bus, which was promised by the previous government.

DCE Danquah called on the people to support the government in the implementation of its policies and programmes to ensure development of the area, and help improve upon living conditions.

Mr. Danquah as well assured them that, as a professional teacher, he would give premium to the quality of education in the area, by ensuring that adequate infrastructure, teaching and learning materials are available.
