Kudos! Highways Ministry, for ongoing rehabilitation of Kaneshie footbridge

It is barely a month ago when the Accra File wrote on the terrible state of the Kaneshie footbridge, which was a danger to pedestrians and motorists, who pass on and under it.

It was reported that the handrails, which pedestrians hold when climbing or descending the bridge, were feeble and had developed cracks, which had became a source of harm to the palms of those who clutch them.

For about two weeks now, the Accra File has noticed that the bridge has been closed for reconstruction, and till date, there is still work going on.

The Accra File noted that the feeble and the cracked metal handrails had now been changed to wood, which is much safer for users. Also the footbridge has been re-painted.

Again, it was discovered that the long and wide distances between the staircases were now closed, just as the second bridge, which would make pedestrians comfortable when climbing.

In a conversation with the workers over the weekend, some explained that it was not only the Highways Ministry, but also the Bridge Maintenance Unit, which was also included in the ongoing repairs on the overpass.

It was further known that the bridge was closed from the 13th of June this year, and is expected to be opened on July 8th this year.

This time around the contractors assured the Accra File and the public that the bridge would be safe for use.
