Arusha — The Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA)-organized football sports bonanza held at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha last weekend did not produce a winner in the soccer event, courtesy of TANESCO who sustained power blues.
Taswa - Dar es Salaam, with its star-studded football team of the likes of Maulid Kitenge, Juma Pinto, Majuto Omar and Suleiman Mkangara, were hot favourites of the Cup but suddenly dusk set in and there was no power at the stadium
TASWA - Dar had played an impressive game but could not penetrate Triple A defence. The match ended up in a tie and subsequently a 5-5 penalty shoot-out.. Referee Samwel Mpenzu called off the game when darkness set in. Another final match will now be held in Dar es Salaam at a date to be set soon.
Triple A team made to the final after thrashing the Arusha School of Journalism 1-0 in the opening match and thumping TASWA Arusha 1-0 in their second play.
Dar es Salaam Taswa FC had humiliated the Simanjiro ORS Radio team 3-0 and later thrashed Tanzanite One 1-0. The latter was training under former Simba SC Coach Madaraka Bendera.
In the other games, Dar es Salaam -Taswa lady Oliver Albert won the cockerel chase and so did Ashrafi Bakari of Taswa Arushain another category.
At the closing session of the bonanza at the Triple A hall, the Arusha Acting Regional Commissioner Raymond Mushi, congratulated journalists for their contribution and participation in the promotion of sports in the country.
Mushi who is also Arusha's District Commissioner also paid tribute to Taswa Arusha and Unique Promotions Company for organizing the bonanza and promised to join the Triple A team in the final match against Dar es Salaam Taswa FC.
This year's bonanza was sponsored by the Tanzania Breweries Limited, the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA).
Other sponsors were a mobile phone company of Alphatel, Orkonerei Mass Media, Pepsi Cola Bottlers, Triple A, Banana Investments, Nyirefami, CRDB, Big Game Expeditions, the International Evangelism Church and Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Arusha region.
