In its uncompromising determination to expose and weed out corrupt elements, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has dismissed three of its employees for the alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
Those dismissed are Ms Denise Ramsey, Assistant Director for Personnel and Training, Mr. Joseph Kiazolu, General Coordination of the Randall Street Post Annex and Mr. Carrington Kumuteh, Personnel Expeditor. The action against the dismissed employees, according to postal affairs release is intended to protect the good image of Government and the general public confidence being gradually imposed in Liberia's postal.
The release said the action is a consequence of their deliberate, brave and criminal intention to have clandestinely encashed and converted into their personal selfish use, dismissed and dead employees' checks worth overL$5.9M (over five point nine million Liberian dollars) stolen between the period of march 2008 and May 2009.
The statement said: "Ms Denis Ramsey, Messrs Joseph Kiazolu and Carrington Kumuteh were dismissed in accordance with Section 4.2.2h of the Standing Orders for Civil Services of the Republic of Liberia, by Postmaster General Jeremiah C. Sulunteh in letters all dated July 3, 2009."
The three dismissed employees, according to the letters addressed to them have been forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, together with an investigative report holding them liable for the crime committed, for prosecution.
Meanwhile, some other major administrative actions are expected to be effectuated in the Ministry to deter and inhibit misdemeanors when the Postmaster General shall have returned from Beijing, China, where he is accompanying the Vice President Joseph M. Boakai.
While in China, Minister Sulunteh shall hold conference with some officials of the Chinese Government and potential Chinese investors to attract their interests to support Liberia's nationwide postal recovery efforts and seek investment opportunities in the telecommunications sector of Liberia.
While away for about ten-day official visit with Vice President Boakai in China, Dr. Marcus S. G. Dahn, Deputy Minister for Administration, will continue to act in the stead of Postmaster General Jeremiah C. Sulunteh.
