Angola: Benfica Craftspeople to Trade in Other Sites

Luanda — The provincial director of culture in Luanda, Manuel Sebastião, Monday here affirmed that the sellers of craftworks market in Benfica, Samba district, will be relocated in other places.

Speaking to Angop, the culture official referred that the withdrawal of the craftworks from that space is due to the re-planning, soon, of Benfica road.

The provincial management of culture will indicate some places for the trade of craftworks, said the official, pointing out as example the sites nearby the slavery museum, Luanda Island, Independence Square, among others.

Manuel Sebastião reminded that the craftworks market, in Samba, hosts traders from the districts of Cacuaco, Viana, Kilamba Kiaxi, Rangel, among other places.

They are confined at Benfica market and with the nearing of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2010) they may be distributed in several parts of the city, thus enabling the tourists to have access to Angolan culture with no difficulties.

Next Wednesday, Manuel Sebastião will meet, at African League of Solidarity towards the People, former African league, with the representatives from the associations of craftworks in the Angolan capital, to find better solutions for the success of the plan.
