Nairobi — National women volleyball head coach David Lung'aho has singled out Senegal, as the team to look out for during the World Championship qualifiers which start at Kasarani on Thursday.
Senegal surprised giants Nigeria in Lagos to make it to the Nairobi leg.
However, Lung'aho is not focussed on the tournament yet, as he has the task of dropping two more players. Kenya Prison's setter Florence Bosire, Virginia Njeri and Elizabeth Nafula were axed last week but two more have to go as Lung'aho needs to have only 12 players for the championship.
"I have been informed that we will only be using 12 players. I have 14 in camp and that means that two will be going home. It is a tough choice to make with all having showed top performance," said Lung'aho.
Kenya has been seeded top in Pool C, which also has Tunisia and Cameroon Cameroon and Senegal finished first and second during the second round of Africa qualifiers in Lagos last month.
Top finishers
Kenya and Tunisia were given byes to the third and final round that will see the top finishers qualify for the November World Championship in Japan.
Pool D, based in Cairo, has Egypt and Algeria as automatic candidates while Mauritius and South Africa joined them after the second round competitions.
Lung'aho last guided Kenya to win the berth to the 2006 World championship in Japan, but served as deputy coach to Sadatoshi Sugawara in the tournament proper.
"It will be my first time to guide this team if we qualify. I have the experience having served as the deputy to Sugawara. To me it is a challenge and not there is no pressure whatsoever on me," said Lung'aho.
Tunisia, who are yet to beat Kenya in the tournament, will be another team to watch out for, and so is Cameroon, the winners in West Africa.
