Awka — VICE Chancellor of Anambra State University, Prof Ifeanacho Orajaka, has said that he would soon go into hiding, following pressure by people who desperately want their wards admitted into the institution for next academic session.

Over 26000 candidates, who chose the university as their first or second choice are seeking to be admitted into the university, even as it was gathered that only 1800 would be admitted, in line with the admission quota for the institution by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the 2009/2010 academic year.

Orajaka, who spoke with newsmen weekend at Uli, warned parents and guardians whose children and wards are seeking admission into the school, not to give their money to anybody, who might claim to be in a position to facilitate admission, stressing that admission into the university was not for sell.

"I heard that some people who have made admission racketing their business have started collecting between N100,0000 and N70,000 from candidates and their parents to facilitate their admission.

Some have already, started booking for accommodation in the hotels, claiming that they are standing in for Vice Chancellor, Registrar and other senior staff of the university and collecting money from candidates. Parents should be warned. Don't allow these people to dupe you. Admission in our university is not for sell "said Prof Orajaka.

He disclosed that he and other senior staff of the university were under intense pressure from parents and guardians, who want admission for their children and wards, adding, "I will soon go in hiding and my phones will soon be made unavailale, otherwise people you cannot say 'no' to will be calling me for admission for the children and wards.
