Nigeria: Kuje Council Boss Sensitises Parents on Immunisation

Abuja — The Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Mr. Danladi Etsu Zhin, has called on parents in the area to always bring out their children for polio immunisation.Zhin, who made the call on Saturday while sensitising women that were in company of health officials, said the council deemed it necessary to go out to enlighten parents on the importance of child immunisation and to ensure full compliance by them.

He lamented that most communicable diseases are easily spread and can affect over 200 children, especially those between the ages of 0 to 59 months.

The chairman disclosed that the council authority has informed the traditional ruler of the council and security operatives to visit two houses, where parents resisted their children from being immunised during the last exercise, in order for them to be educated on the importance of polio immunisation.

He called on parents to cooperate with health officials and also appealed to traditional rulers, councilors; village/district heads as well as religious leaders to assist the council enlighten parents on the important of the exercise.

Responding, a World Health Organization (WHO) Consultant, Dr. Edeghere Henry, commended the council boss for taking time to go round and sensitize parents on the importance of polio immunisation and urged other council chairmen to emulate the council boss.

Also Speaking, the Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Tanko Jibrin praised the council boss for providing health facilities in the council and said he will intimate all the district/villages heads across the council on the need to educate their subjects on the importance of polio immunisation.
