Lagos — A 20-year old Nigerian, Miss. Oluwaseun Waziri , a Programme Assistant with Media Concern Initiative for Women and Children (MEDIACON), a Lagos based NGO, has emerged as one of the three young Nigerian youths awarded the 2009/2010 MILEAD Fellowship.
She will join 24 other young Africans on a year-long training and mentoring program, designed to build skills, strengthen networks, and support women's leadership on critical issues.
The MILEAD fellows will converge on Accra- Ghana to kick-start the 2009/2010 MILEAD Fellows Program with a three-week intensive residential leadership institute to be hosted by the University of Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
A 200 level Psychology student of the Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) , Ile-Ife, Osun State , Oluwaseun Waziri was selected as one of the 25 Fellows from 21 African countries and from over 500 applications. The award as a MILEAD fellow was premised on her passion in promoting prevention and response to sexual abuse, especially as it affects women and children.
"I believe children worldwide should have a healthy and safe environment to grow, the provision of which lies on the adults in the society", she stated in her entry for the fellowship.
The MILEAD Fellowship Program is a project of Moremi Initiative for Women's Leadership in Africa and is a uniquely designed initiative committed to the long-term leadership development and promotion of Africa 's most promising young women leaders.
