Harper City — With funding from the United States Government, the people of Harper City, the capital of Maryland County, are expected to brag of a new city hall in few months.
The Maryland County authorities recently turned over the Harper City Hall to the Liberia Community Infrastructure Program (LCIP) for the rehabilitation and construction works.
LCIP has in turn sub-contracted GILGAL, a local construction firm, to implement the rehabilitation and construction of the hall in four months.
GILGAL has already begun preliminary work on the city hall, and the project is expected to provide short term-employment opportunities for many persons in the city, especially the youth population, many of the former combatants.
During programs marking the turning over of the hall for renovation, LCIP's representative Heather Robertson said they were in Harper to restore the Harper City Hall.
LCIP has rehabilitated nine administrative buildings in the country, and the project in Harper will raise the number to 10.
Robertson said administrative buildings in five other counties have been worked on by the United Nations.
Meanwhile Maryland Superintendent J. Gblebo Brown has pleaded with LCIP to consider the theatre at the back of the administrative building for renovation. He said including the theater will give the project a heavy weight.
In response, Madam Robertson said an assessment needs to be done to know the cost before the United State Government can approve renewal of the theater.
This rehabilitation and construction of the city hall is funded by the United State Government and implemented by the Liberia Community Infrastructure Program, she s aid.
In an exclusive interview, GILGAL chief engineer Cecelia J. Pratt told The Informer that the company has a biblical name.
She said in the Bible GILGAL was the place where the Israelite gathered after fighting. So, they have realized that GILGAL is a place for refreshment, and the company expects people to get their refuge.
