Gambia:Heavy Winds Destroy Houses And Properties in Jarra

Reports reaching Foroyaa have disclosed that many houses have been destroyed by heavy winds followed by rain on Wednesday night in different villages in Jarra East.

According to some victims who spoke to this reporter, the winds started at about 10pm.

Among the villages in which the winds made destruction of houses are Jarra Dasilameh, Fellenkoto, Sinchu Njengui, and Wellingara or Bureng Junction.

Speaking to this reporter, the Alkalo of Jarra Dasilameh, Alh. Ebrima Sanneh, confirmed the destruction caused by heavy winds. He said roofs of houses were blown away by the wind. He also confirmed that food stocks were also destroyed by the rain as well as clothing. He said the destruction als has caused them some delay in their farming since they cannot continue their farm work as many families and loved ones have become homeless.

Another young man who spoke to Foroyaa, Damba Jawo of Wellingara, also confirmed the incident and said that many houses were affected. He said they also experienced similar winds last year which destroyed many houses and food stock in the area.
