South Africa: IDC to Increase Involvement in Energy Sector

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is looking to expand its involvement in South Africa's energy sector, reports Engineering News.

The IDC will do this through support for independent power producers. Projects currently under consideration by the IDC include a 500MW wind farm in the Western Cape, a concentrating solar power project headed by Eskom and provisionally located in the Northern Cape, and an integrated coal mine and power plant in Botswana.

As many as ten other independent power producers have approached the IDC with requests for funding.
