Justice Joseph Wowo of the High Court in Banjul, yesterday July 6, 2009, ordered Principal State Counsel Merely Wood to file briefs within 7 days before the court in the criminal appeal case involving one Alieu Njie, a convict.

Njie is appealing against his conviction and sentencing. A Senegalese, he was convicted and sentenced to 7 years custodial jail term for attempting to use Gambia currency (50 butut coins) to make bangles and rings. At the court sitting yesterday, the judge informed the principal state counsel, Merley Wood, that the court had received the written brief filed by the appellant's counsel, Lawyer Modou Musa Drammeh.

In reply, Lawyer Wood acknowledged the receipt of the appellant's brief. Justice Wowo then ordered that the state file its briefs within 7 days. The matter was adjourned to July 23, 2009.
