Ally Mpeka and Swapnil Salve guided TCA Boys to thump Aga Khan by 35 runs in the Advanced Cricket League (APL) held over the weekend at Annadil Burhan oval.

Mpeka who took five wickets left Aga Khan's players chasing an easy 95-run score while the Indian import Salve emerged the top scorer with 26 runs for the winners.

After winning the toss, TCA Boys batted first and managed to post restricted 95 runs in their allotted 26 overs, which their opponents could have beaten easily.

However, even after putting in a superb display when the game resumed Aga Khan failed to equal the score after posting 60 runs only out of 24 overs.

Meanwhile, the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) has named twenty schools picked to compete in the inaugural School Cricket Tournament.

TCA chairman Zully Rehemtullah said the tournament would start this weekend at UDSM and Annadil Burhan venues.

"It is the first time we are staging this competition in Dar es Salaam, but we have plans to organise similar events in Mwanza, Iringa and Morogoro," he said.

The teams listed to compete are Mwalimu Nyerere Boys and Girls teams, Mkwawa A, Mkwawa B, Uzuri A, Uzuri B, Utulivu, Al Muntazil, Victoria Boys and Girls, Mapinduzi Boys and Girls, Makumbusho Boys and Girls, Hekima Boys and Girls.

He said both boys' and girls' teams would battle it out in a twenty over format.

"This format is exciting and takes a short time to complete unlike the boring 50 over format, which takes the whole day," he said.

He pointed out that players of the selected schools began intensive cricket training early this year under the Cricket Chanzo Programme.

The national team players Benson Mwita, Mwanaidi Ibrahim, Riziki Kiseto, Issa Kikasi and Kassim Nassor have also been included in a bid to promote the sport.
