Eritrea: Various Potable Water Supply Projects Worth Over 7.7 Million Nakfa Implement in Northern Red Sea Region

Asmara — In line with the endeavors being made by the Northern Red Sea regional Administration and partners to provide reliable potable water supply to the people, various potable water supply projects were implemented in the region over the past 6 months at a cost of 7.7 million Nakfa.

The projects involve digging of wells, distribution of water pipelines, installation and renovation of solar energy-generating devices and hand-pumps, construction of ponds and water distribution stations, as well as undertaking of study on underground water resource and offering training on water resource management.

Reports indicated that 16 wells have been dug, a 750 meter-long water pipelines installed and a 50 cubic-meters of pond constructed, in addition to the distribution of water pipelines and the construction of water tanker in Gahtelai administrative area.

Meanwhile, a total of 13 new hand-pumps have been installed in 11 villages in the sub-zones of Ginda, Nacfa, Afabet and She'ib, while another 11 hand-pumps in a number of administrative areas have been renovated.

Solar energy-generating devices have also been installed in Gelalo, Bordele, Kadra, Gahtelai and Demas, besides the replacement of old water pipelines with new ones and the construction of water distribution station in Tseret, the reports added.
