Lagos — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested six drug suspects at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos for trafficking about 9.788 kg of cocaine.
According to NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell, the suspects include Unuoha Raphael Nnamdi, 32, who was caught on June 26, 2009 which is the International Day Against Illicit Drug Trafficking and Abuse.
Other suspects are Eruka Jonah Ogbah, 50, Ezechukwu Chidi, 31 and Umehaa Chukwujekwu Lawrence arrested on June 28, 2009.
Jack Okorie arrested on June 24 and Oviawe Emmanuel June 24, 2009.
Apart from Oviawe Emmanuel and Umehaa Chukwujekwe that were caught while attempting to import cocaine from Brazil, others were arrested on their way out of the country.
Giving details of the arrest, NDLEA Commander at the Lagos airport, Victor Cole-Showers, said that Onuoha Raphael Nnamdi, a spare parts dealer in Onitsha, Anambra State, defied the commemoration by attempting to smuggle 71 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine with a weight of 1.3 kg.
He tested positive for drug ingestion at the centre screening area at the Lagos airport during screening of KLM passengers to Amsterdam. His final destination was Hamburg in Germany.
In his statement, Unuoha, single, who hails from Eziagu, Enugu State, accepted swallowing the drugs which he excreted while he was under observation at the NDLEA airport office.
