Kampala — DAVIS Kamoga will join fellow Olympic medallists at a congress in Athens next week to discuss a number of issues including the welfare of retired sportsmen.
The Atlanta Olympics bronze medallist explained that the congress was called following the miserable lifestyles of former sportsmen especially in the third world. The congress due July 13-21, is organised by the International Olympic Academy.
"We are going to brainstorm on how these athletes' lives can be boosted," said Kamoga who, after winning bronze at the 1996 games. He later clinched a silver at the Athens World Championships in 1997.
Uganda Olympic Committee, through which the invitation came, has aided Kamoga's travel with an airticket. Kamoga praised the committee led by Ddungu for the gesture.
Kamoga said it was unfortunate that Uganda's other Olympic medallists-boxers Eridad Mukwanga and Leo Rwabwogo and 400m hurdles runner John Akii-Bua died without accessing such international meets.
