Johannesburg — DIMENSION Data Middle East and Africa has sold 49% of its Tanzanian subsidiary to a local partner for an undisclosed amount.
The stake has been bought by Tanzania's WiA Group, and follows Didata 's strategy of working in other African countries by forming partnerships with local investors or technology players. The group is the majority shareholder in WiA, an internet service provider that mainly operates in Dar es Salaam.
The partnership would ensure that businesses in Tanzania, as well as government and public sector agencies, had access to a range of modern, reliable and affordable technology solutions and services, said Neda Smith, GM of Dimension Data Tanzania, yesterday. "This partnership reflects the company's commitment to empowerment through local ownership, and recognition of the benefits for all parties when companies combine their strengths to provide solutions and services to organisations."
WiA Group CEO Eric Mwenda said working with Didata gave it access to an enormous pool of technology skills, worldwide best practices and the opportunity to boost its own technological capabilities.
