Kigali — RWANDA will not field any athlete at the 6th IAAF World Youth Championship, which starts today July 8-12 in the Italian town of Bressanone.
Adrienne Musabyewayesu, the only athlete initially set to compete in the five-day event was denied a visa by the Italian Consulate according to reports from the national athletics federation.
"We applied for a visa three weeks ago, but up to now, they (Italian consulate) have not replied," the Secretary General of the National Athletics Federation Apollinaire Munyangoga revealed yesterday.
Musabyewayesu was due to run in the 1500m category after getting the minimum required qualification time in the Kigali international marathon which was held in May.
The World Youth Championship has attracted athletes between the ages of 16-21.
